Toquade 2018 is the 13th vintage of a single vineyard organic, dry-farmed in Yountville Napa Valley. The vineyard is located next to the Napa River, where the soil is nutrient rich, with a good water holding capacity making it an excellent terroir for Sauvignon Blanc.
The 2018 vintage started as a dry winter. No serious rain occurred before March. It was perfectly timed with the vine bud break. No frost was recorded during the bloom period in May. It was reasonably warm. Consequently the fruit set was larger than the previous year. The summer was cooler than average which allows the fruit to develop a nice flavor. No heat wave was recorded after veraison in mid July which pushed the harvest date 2 weeks later than the previous vintage. The fruits were hand harvested early on the morning of September 7, 2018.
After fermentation was complete the wine was aged on lees with weekly bâtonage to increase the roundness and texture for 7 months. The wine was bottled mid March 2019.The wine has a nice nose of guava, grape fruit. It presents with a crisp mouth feel at first, then develops a rich and flavorful mid palate with a long finish of tropical fruits notes. This wine can be enjoyed by itself or paired with dishes such as sushi or bouchetta. It also goes well with fish based recipes and Asian food.
